From Thursday 9th of March until Friday the 24th of March the Knight of Glin exhibition room at the City Assembly House will host 'Burning the Big House' an exhibition curated by Prof. Terence Dooley, Head of the History Department at Maynooth University and Director of the Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates.
This exhibition, based on Terence Dooley’s widely-acclaimed book entitled Burning the Big House: the Story of the Irish Country House in War and Revolution 1912-23 reveals the experiences of the Irish landed aristocracy during the revolutionary period of the War of Independence and Civil War, as seen through the prism of the malicious destruction of hundreds of their Big Houses.
