Landscapes and Cityscapes: Lectures on the landscapes of County Kerry and the buildings of MacCurtain Street area of Cork City followed by lunch at Isaac’s Restaurant


Join the IGS Cork Chapter for a morning of lectures followed by a walking tour and lunch. The morning will start with refreshments followed by a lecture by Victoria McCarty, Conservation Officer in Kerry County Council and 2023 Desmond Guinness Scholarship recipient, on the designed landscapes of Kerry. After a brief interval Dr Danielle O'Donovan, architectural historian and teacher at UCC, will give a talk on the development of Bridge Street and MacCurtain Street on the northside of Cork City Centre. Weather permitting*, there will be a short walking tour of the Bridge Street and MacCurtain Street area led by Dr. Danielle O’Donovan who will speak about notable buildings and views of significance. A two-course lunch (including tea/coffee) will be provided at Isaac’s Restaurant.

Itinerary

10.00 am: Registration and refreshments at Cork Civic Trust House, 50 Popes Quay, Cork (Eircode T23 R6XC)
10.30 am: Lecture - 'Designed Landscapes of Knights, Lords, and Ladies' by Victoria McCarthy
11.15 am: Interval
11.30 am: Lecture - 'MacCurtain Street - where residences meet retail and rail' by Dr Danielle O’Donovan
12.30 pm: Short walking tour of MacCurtain Street area
1.30 pm: Lunch at Isaac’s Restaurant, MacCurtain Street

Tickets: €70 (members), €80 (non-members). Tickets include lunch and must be purchased in advance by completing the booking form here.

Places are limited and all completed forms, and *payment must be received by Wednesday 26th February*

Refunds Policy: Unfortunately, refunds can only be processed on the basis of 48 hours prior notice of cancellation to the committee member organising the event. In the event of the outing involving bus transport or prepayments, then refunds will only be possible on the basis that the vacated space is filled. All refunds are at the sole discretion of the committee.
