A visit to St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral and Environs followed by an End of Year Celebratory Lunch

Join Cork Chapter member's for a visit to St Finn Barre's Cathedral in Cork City and the surrounding environs, followed by a celebratory lunch in the River Lee Hotel.

The Cathedral was consecrated in 1870 and was designed by William Burges and was inspired by French Gothic architecture. Every part of the building was designed by Burges, including the stained-glass windows, the mosaics and the intricate carvings in stone, wood and brass. Guide for the tour of the cathedral will be Richard Wood, longtime IGS member and curator of the 2014 exhibition Searching for the New Jerusalem: the Art of William Burges at the Glucksman Gallery. After a tour attendees will then have a walking tour of the surrounding environs, including the exterior of the Crawford Art Gallery, before moving onto the River Lee Hotel for lunch.

Itinerary:

10.00 am Meet at St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork for registration.

10.15 am Guided tour of the Cathedral by Richard Wood.

12.00pm Tour of environs, including Crawford College of Art and Design (exterior).

1.30pm End of Year Celebratory Lunch at the River Lee Hotel, Cork.

Tickets: 70euro members/80euro non members including lunch.
Lunch will consist of two courses (four choices for each course) and tea/coffee.
