Gainsborough, Silk and Sudbury

Thomas Gainsborough (1727-88) is one of Britain's greatest artists and his birthplace and childhood home is a an important heritage building. This visit will start with a talk about Thomas Gainsborough’s life and work followed by a tour of the house, a Grade I-listed 18th century merchant house, and the newly refurbished galleries. This will be followed by lunch in the Hills Room. After lunch, there will have a guided walking tour of town of Sudbury which will include the water meadows, Salter Hall and other old buildings as well as the history of the silk weaving industry in Sudbury. The visit should finish at approx. 4.00pm.
Tickets: £60 Members/£65 Non Members, price includes lunch
Please note Gainsborough's House is approx. a ten minute walk from Sudbury train station.
