We are delighted to have arranged a visit to Formans at Fish Island, Bow, London E3, who gained huge publicity during the planning of the Olympic site. Formans is one of the longest family run smoked salmon businesses and adjoins the Olympic Park and the River Lea.
Our visit will commence with attendees arriving at Stratford Underground Station, which is on the Central Line, Jubilee Line and Docklands Light Railway. At 11.15am a coach will take you to Fish Island where the smokery is located, only a few minutes away.
Coffee will be served in the Art Gallery and Lance Forman will give a talk on the history of smoking salmon in the East End of London and his fight with the Greater London Authority and senior Government ministers to keep his business in the area. After his talk, you will be taken to see where the fish is prepared, having been suitably attired in plastic shoe covers, hair covers and gowns. You will see a demonstration by one of the leading experts in the world and there will be opportunities to ask questions.
We will then return to the Art Gallery, overlooking the Olympic Park and the ArcelorMittal Orbit, the world’s largest and tallest tunnel slide designed by the Turner prize winner, Anish Kapoor, for a two-course lunch. After lunch you will be able to look at the art and browse the shop before returning by coach to Stratford Underground Station. Tickets cost £75 Member, £65 YIGs, £80 Non-Member.
