14 November 2019 - Christopher Colles And The Mapping Of Early Modern Limerick with Judith Hill
Before he left Ireland for America in 1771, Christopher Colles (1739–1816) spent five years in Limerick. During that time he made a map of the city, which included Davis Ducart’s design for a gridded new town. This would become the Georgian new town of Limerick we know today. To mark the 250th anniversary of the production of this impressive map, Judith Hill will examine Colles’ career in Ireland and America, a career marked by great persistence and talent, but not a great deal of luck. Dr Judith Hill is a professional architectural historian with a PhD in architectural history from TCD and a Diploma in Architecture from the RIBA. Among other things, she has written extensively on the architecture of Limerick city. Time: 8pm
Location: The People's Museum Of Limerick, No. 2 Pery Square, Limerick
