Tuesday 17 September

9.05 Flight to Dresden on Lufthansa via Frankfurt

14.50 Arrive Dresden Airport and transfer to the GEWANDHAUS HOTEL, located just off the very near the Neumarkt

16.00 Orientation walk in the restored historic centre, to include the Schloss Joisting Yard, the Fürstenzug, the Court Catholic Church and the Frauenkirche

20.00 Dinner near the hotel

Wednesday 18 September

9.00 Leave (on foot) with local guide to visit the Grünes Gewölbe and the other museums in the now completely reconstructed Stadtschloss

12.00 Leave (by coach) for Pillnitz

Lunch at restaurant onsite

Visit Schloss Pillnitz

16.00 Return to Dresden via boat along the Elbe

Dinner independently

Thursday 19 September

9.00 Leave (by coach) for Meissen

10.00 Visit ‘behind the scenes’ at the Meissen Porcelain Factory

Walk in the old city, to include the Cathedral and Albrechtsburg Castle

12.30 Continue for a private lunch at Schloss Proschwitz (by kind arrangement with the zur Lippe family)

16.00 Visit the Electoral Hunting Lodge at Moritzburg

Dinner independently

Optional performance of Benvenuto Cellini by Berlioz at the Semper Oper

Friday 20 September

9.30 Leave (on foot) with local guide to visit the Zwinger, including the Gemäldegalerie and the Porcelain Collection

1.00 Lunch at the Altemeister restaurant

p.m. Some free time to explore more museums

18.00 Depart for drinks, followed by dinner above the Elbe

Saturday 21 September

9.00 Leave (by coach) to visit the newly restored Schloss Rammenau

Continue to see Augustus’s Baroque garden at Großsedlitz

p.m. Continue to Schloss Weesenstein for lunch, followed by a visit

Visit the Bastei viewpoint to see the dramatic rocks in ‘Saxon Switzerland’

Return to Dresden

Dinner independently

Sunday 22 September

am Some free time / opportunity to attend a church service

11.00 Leave (with luggage) to visit the gardens of the Seifersdorfer Tal, created in the 1780s

11.00 Lunch at a restaurant in the valley

16.00 Continue to the airport

18.40 Flight to Dublin on Lufthansa via Frankfurt

22.15 Arrive Dublin

PRICE INFORMATION: Cost per person sharing €1820. Single supplement €234. Cost includes 5 nights bed and breakfast in 4* hotel as per programme; local Guide; coach transfers; entries to museums, gardens and houses; 2 dinners and 5 lunches and €200 contribution to IGS.

· The trip will go ahead if a minimum number of bookings is reached.

· All travelling must be members of the Irish Georgian Society.

· Balance payment will be made directly to the Irish Georgian Society and balance due date will be advised at a later date.

· Once balance payments are made, we can only provide a balance refund if your place can be filled by another member. Otherwise, we suggest claiming from your travel insurance where applicable.
