In 2018, work began on cataloguing the Bolton Library – previously known as the Cashel Diocesan Library – a collection of 12,000+ rare and early-printed texts acquired in 2016 by the Glucksman Library (University of Limerick). This is no small task, as each volume is a unique object in its own right with its own story to tell, one shaped by authors, printers, binders, collectors, and readers, and made distinct by bindings, decoration, marginalia, and even past trauma. In this way, the UL catalogue captures the most comprehensive representation possible of the journey each item has taken, from its creation to its sojourn in twenty-first century Munster.
