Visit to St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London.
Wednesday 19th of April at 2pm.
The London Chapter is offering a unique opportunity to see Barts hospital in the company of Will Palin, the Chief Executive of Barts Heritage, the organization set up to renovate the historic buildings. It will be the last such opportunity before they close later this year for two years’ work.
St Bartholomew’s Hospital was founded in 1123 and so is celebrating its 900th anniversary on its site in the City this year. The best buildings, little known even to long term Londoners, are the Grade I listed North Wing and the Henry VIII Gatehouse. The North Wing was built to designs by James Gibbs in 1732. It houses two of England’s most important interiors, the Great Hall, and the Hogarth Stair with its massive paintings by William Hogarth, together with an extensive collection of art. We will be seeing all this on a private tour. There is also a fascinating small museum which we can visit before or after our tour.
Tickets: £25 (members), £30 (non-members), to include tea and cakes at the end of the tour.
Time: 2pm. We will finish about 4pm.
Venue: St Bartholomew's Hospital, West Smithfield, London EC1A 7BE. Nearest undergrounds Barbican, Faringdon and St Paul’s.
*Guest are welcome but if we are over-subscribed members will have priority*
