CONSERVING YOUR DUBLIN PERIOD HOUSE 2023 (TALK 5)

Historic Windows: their history, significance and conservation
by Dr Nessa Roche, Senior Architectural Advisor, Built Heritage Policy, Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, author of the Department’s Advice Series: A Guide to the Repair of Historic Windows.

This is the fifth talk in the Irish Georgian Society and Dublin City Council's Conserving your Dublin Period House talk series.

This talk is delivered by Dr Nessa Roche, the author of The Legacy of Light: A History of Irish Windows (Wordwell Press, 1999), who is the authority on the history and conservation of Irish windows. The talk will explain the stylistic evolution of Irish windows and provide practical advice for their conservation, as well as address issues relating to appropriate interventions for upgrading their thermal performance.

The talk will be of interest to all owners and occupiers of period houses but will be of particular interest to owners of houses listed as Protected Structures or located within Architectural Conservation Areas.

The talk will also benefit building professionals and practitioners working on historic houses and is approved for CPD by the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, Engineers Ireland, the Irish Planning Institute, the CIF and the Register of Heritage Contractors.

The talk costs €15.

Subscribers will be able to attend the talk in person at the IGS's City Assembly House or online live through Zoom. Please be advised that you do not need to decide at time of booking whether you wish to attend in person or online.

In addition, all talk subscribers, irrespective of whether they attended in-person or on-line, will be sent a link to the recording of the talk which will be available to watch for a further two-weeks. After the two-week period the link will expire and cannot be re-issued

There will be an opportunity at the end of the talk to ask conservation questions relevant to your period house. Those watching the talk live online can submit their questions through the Zoom Q&A function.
